Memberships and Supporting Sakya Choekhor Lhunpo
As a non-profit organization, membership subscriptions and donations are a very important source of our income. They literally enable us to continue the activities of the centre on behalf of both members and the broader community. These activities include:
- hosting empowerments and public teachings by some of the most accomplished and prominent Sakya luminaries
- supporting individual spiritual development through interaction with our learned and compasionate resident lama, Lama Konchock Choephel
- providing opportunities for group practice sessions, teachings and retreats
- delivering Buddhist community services in times of need
- supporting young lamas in India and elsewhere
- making reference information available via our website
- providing notification of relevant Buddhist activities via our e-mail distribution list

Memberships
To become a member is easy. Simply print out and complete a membership form (PDF) and send it to the Secretary at the address indicated on the form, or hand it to a committee member at one of our events.
In accordance with the constitution the secretary will then refer the membership application to the committee for acceptance. Upon acceptance, the secretary will notify you and the annual fee will be due within 28 days. In practice, if you wanted to submit the annual membership monies along with the membership form that's OK too.
Memberships currently run though until the end of December each year.
While there are personal advantages to becoming a member of SCL, such as recieving member rates at events, being invited to member only activities such as social gatherings with visiting teachers, accumulating merit through assisting a darma centre and having a vote/say in the operation of the centre, we find it better in the long term to view subscriptions as an way for individuals to support the centre and its activities.

Donations
As an alternative, or additional, way to support the centre your valuable assistance in the form of direct donations would be greatly appreciated. Such donations may be directed to specific causes such as supporing our resident lama in some particular way through to contributing to the general operation of the organization. Donations can be made using one of the following 3 avenues:

Time, Effort and In Kind Assistance
The importance of volunteers in both major events and in an ongoing basis cannot be over estimated. The lead up and running of events are affected greatly by the enthusiasm, assistance and expertise of volunteers, and in an ongoing basis the effectiveness of the centre is enhanced and propelled greatly by the efforts of non-committee volunteers. Also it is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in auspicious occasions, and to help the Dharma flourish here in Melbourne.
If you would like to assist the centre in this or other ways, or would like to be put on our list of volunteers to assist with (major) events, please send a message addressed to the secretary with the relevant details. We'd love to hear from you.
